The recording for this album began in 2019, and it was there where the direction and sound took shape. Though when Melbourne went into a strict lockdown in March, which continued for many months and 2020 became very weird and challenging, all of that was set aside for something new.

That something is Year Four Zero, a hopeful and positive-vibe-filled record that is earnest. The intention wasn’t to create an antithesis to anything specific, and in many ways, it was as simple as firing up Ableton Live, turning on some gear, and experimenting.

Each track here is special to me in its own certain way, from the lo-fi funk of ‘Crush Groove’ to the ‘90s dream that is ‘Time Please’.

Creating music is a form of escape, music can be a window and portal to a different time, place, and state of mind. ‘Our Story Begins’ doesn’t represent reality in as much as it does the love we can feel. Layers of ambient warmth. A sentiment that comes to the fore in ‘The Heartbeat of a City’ which is dedicated to everyone, everywhere.

‘Lifted’ is the place I hope we can all be.
